To mark Perinatal Depression Awareness Week (31 October to 8 November), the two celebrities will talk about loneliness, coping and keeping well, at the Oakroom in Victoria Park Market.

Perinatal distress affects around one in five mothers and around one in six fathers in New Zealand.

Perinatal distress describes what can be a wide range of symptoms experienced after giving birth that aren’t necessarily restricted to depression, such as anxiety, sleeplessness and panic attacks.

Event organisers, the Perinatal Mental Health NZ Trust is working to improve outcomes for families and whanau affected by mental illness related to pregnancy, childbirth and early parenthood.

Perinatal depression affects the whole community. This event, hosted by celebrity Jude Dobson, reinforces the vital messages that “it’s ok to talk about it” and early intervention leads to a faster recovery.
