Depression support is available 24/7 over the holidays

18 Dec, 2015

All Black great and mental health advocate Sir John Kirwan is reminding Kiwis there’s always support at the end of the phone, when you need it.

“Sometimes the usual people you go to for help, are on holiday,” Sir John says.

For example, some mental health services, such as face-to-face counselling or therapy, close over Christmas.

For many Kiwis Christmas can be a sad, lonely and challenging for lots of reasons: family feuds, big financial pressures or there’s someone gone from your life that you really miss at this time of year.

Whatever the reason, Sir John says, the best gift you can give to yourself, or someone close to you, is peace of mind: you can get through this and there is always help available.

“All you’ve got to do is reach out,” he says.

It’s easier than you think to get in touch with the right people, at the website or on the Depression Helpline 0800 111 757.

There is always someone to talk to, day or night.
